Default line-x cost

im wondering what it cost everyone to line-x or rhino line there beds. i called a dealer here a couple months ago and they told me it was $700 to do my short bed. when i asked why it was so much (my friend had his long bed dodge done up for $400 out the door) they told me it was because of the paint. it was to old or something and would needed to be sand blasted off. i laughed and just hung up. iv never heard of someone paying more then $500 for just the basic line-x job.

I got a gallon Herculiner kit and that was enough to do my flareside. It's not QUITE as thick as I would have hoped, but it does the job and it only cost me $65 after a $20 rebate.

I think 2 gallons of Herculiner would be perfect for a short bed.

Prep was the most time consuming part because my truck bed had a lot of grease and a bit of rust I had to take care of. Then I had to scuff it all (I just used a palm sander). actually applying it took maybe 30 minutes per coat(2 coats in a gallon kit).

im a perfectionist and dont wana risk messing up somehow. atleast if a shop messes up they gotta fix it. plus i was just curious on what everyone else payed for theres to see if the $700 was right or extremely over priced. iv never heard such a thing that the paint is to old.

yeah, I hear ya. if I had more money to play with, I'd have paid to get a line-x bed too.

as far as the paint is too old, I can only imagine that the paint is just damaged enough that they don't think it will be a suitable base.... or they just want to tag on the cost of stripping it.

I've heard from my local line-ex that it would be around $4-500 for a long bed.

they never seen the bead of my truck. its had the plastic liner in the bed since it rolled off the lot. my bed aint in horrible shape just the paint rubbed off a little (no rust) but i thought 700 was just insane. i was expecting 300-500 since like i said, everyone i know payed around that for there's. hell the 98 dodge in my sig has a rhino lined bed and the PO payed 450 for it.

Paint is too old? How did they determine that over the phone?

its the orig paint for a 96 thats how they guessed it was too old lol. i told them it was for a 1996 f150 xlt short bed and i wanted it just over the bed rails. then they started saying the paint was to old and would need sand blasted off to put the line-x on.

hmmm... I'd get a second opinion...google another line-x shop in another town, call them, and get the same type of estimate.... if they say the thing about the paint, ask them why, exactly, they think they need to do that.

you should be able to tell them to spray it without the sandblasting, but they might not offer a full warranty or something.
