Default Limited Slip?

So I went to take the truck out today and recently we've been hit pretty hard with snow here in VA, so there was ice under one of the back wheels and nothing but pavement under the rear right. Go to pull up (Apt. complex parking and I backed in on a slight incline) only to be stuck there hearing the left tire spinning on ice. But according to specs, this truck has a limited slip differential???? 93 F-150 3.55 gears. 5.0 auto. 2wd.

The truck gets stuck easily in mud, wet grass, especially when its on a slight incline.

What kind of "Limited slip" differential did ford put in this thing?

The clutches and springs in these things go very easily I'm rebuilding mine with a whole new eaton locker but you can go to advance autoparts and pick up a internal differential rebuild kit for around 150-200$ or check jeffsbroncograveyard.com

What kind of "Limited slip" differential did ford put in this thing?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does the tag on the differential have the letter L between the gear ratio numbers?
3 L 55

The L indicates Limited slip or Ford's Traction Lok limited-slip differential.

If the tag has an L, ensure the correct gear oil is in the differential.
The pre-loaded clutch pack must have friction in the oil for the discs to bind both wheels together. The clutches will not bind together with regular gear oil. The gear oil must be for limited slip differentials.

Years ago; I added a small, expensive bottle of GM limited-slip (friction) additive to my 1978 F-150 rear limited slip differential and both tires always pulled together on pavement, mud or sand.

If there is a blank space where the L should be; then it is an open differential, without the pre-loaded clutch pack and only one wheel at a time will pull or spin in mud, grass or on ice.

Limited slip OEM names:
Ford - Traction Lok
Chevrolet - Posi-trac
Dodge - Sure grip
Eaton - Truetrac

Maybe this answered your question

Yea agreed I'd definitely check the tag, unless you're the original owner the door jamb sticker might not mean much.

I'll have to check that out....I know right before i bought it last spring there was a Jiffy Lube receipt for differential oil change in with the other receipts and it was dated right before I got it. I wouldn't put it past Jiffy lube to put the wrong stuff in there.

jiffy lube doesn't even carry friction modifier, or at least they didnt when I worked up there. That doesn't mean they put the wrong oil in it, it just means you have to add the modifier.

In the mean time, slightly apply the E-brake when you get in this situation.
