Knock Sensor
I have a bit of a problem. Apparently a few sensors went up in my '94 F-150 XL 4.9(Straight 6), the codes it gave were O2 sensor(replaced) MAP sensor(replaced) and the Knock Sensor. Every single autoparts store around here does not even carry a Knock sensor for my truck, and when I searched online the only thing I could find were Knock sensors for 5.0 liter engines. Do straight-six engines even use Knock Sensors?

I found reference to one on this site, but it is for a V8.
They do not list a knock sensor for the I-6 engine.

Here is a description of what a knock sensor is/does:
Knock Sensor Description
A quality Knock Sensor is more important than ever thanks to today’s increasing gas prices. Your Engine Knock Sensor enables your vehicle to obtain the optimum combination of timing and fuel/air mixture to generate power and efficiency and that means less wasted gas. In addition to robbing you of fuel economy and performance a faulty Knock Sensor can cause expensive damage to your engine. Remember, the Knock Sensor keeps fuel from detonating in the cylinder … exploding rather than quickly burning as it should. If not replaced a faulty Knock Sensor can quite literally cause hundreds if not thousands of dollars in damage.

My Chiltons only covers the years 87-91, but the 91 4.9L shows a knock sensor.
However, searches of various online parts catalog don't have a knock (a.k.a. detonation) sensor listed for the 91 4.9L, only for the 5.0L.
Hmmmm - perhaps a dealer would be the one to straighten this out once and for all.
BTW - the knock sensor adjusts the ignition timing, not the fuel as an O2 sensor does.

Knock Sensor
Hey, my buddy is having the same problem with the knock sensor. His truck is a 95(?) F-150 I6 EFi with a bunch of miles. It started spitting and sputtering one day, and the scan tool at school only brought up a knock sensor code.
As with you, NAPA Autozone, and even a Ford Dealership didn't carry any knock sensors for his truck, and couldn't even tell us where to go to order one.
We went to the local junkyard and pulled the sensors off of a few Inlines and tried them in his truck but it had the same problem. Idk if the sensors were all bad, or if his wiring is screwy.
A friend of ours has a 91 F-150 with the 5.0 in it, and we think the sensors are the same, but the 5.0 one is a pain in the *** to get to. We are gonna try to swap them just to make sure that is the problem, and to see if the 5.0 sensor will work with the 4.9
I realize this is an old thread, but it is sort of a big problem since knock sensors are impossible to find, can anyone help find a place that sells them new?

I have the same problem with my 95 F150 4.9 fi Y code. As soon as the temp gage starts to come up it pings and smokes badly but runs fine cold. I found a knock sensor here and will let you know if it fixed the problem when I get it.
