Hey guys, just bought a 1996 supercab shortbox with the 5.8 liter 4x4...interior is absolutly mint and the engine only has 161,000 KM and some minor rusting which fender flares should fix up...i'll get some pictures up hopefully by next weekend.

I definitly want to look at lifting to clear some bigger tires, as this will be a dailydriver as well as half decent performance off road, nothing extreme mind you.

I guess first of all whats the biggest tire I can run without feeling like I need to change gears.

Im thinking 33? maybe 35?

and what would be a sufficent lift kit but im mostly lookin for a kit thats easy to install and keeps the truck reliable...like stayin away from having to extend and fab too much stuff.

4inch perhaps???

32's or 33's i think would fit without a lift, get a tape measure out and see for sure. make sure you leave room for articulation though. if it's a daily driver then a 4 inch lift would be enough, anything bigger will drive you nuts having to climb in and out.

I think that most would say 33's are the biggest before you would need to think about re-gearing. 33's will also fit with a leveling kit for the front and no lift on the rear. I have a 1996 Scab 4x4 with the 8' bed and I am running 31's with no lift on the front. They don't rub, but they only miss by a little bit.

perfect thanks for the quick answears...how bout gettin a little more oomph out of her?? intake exhaust chips? wheres the best bang for your buck?

for exhaust what are guys doing, my other vehicle im sellin right now is a 98 durango with the 5.2 l and all i did on her was cut out the stock muffler and put in a magnaflow..it had a great sound but it could have been louder, like im not talkin wake the dead loud or attract all the cops within a 3 block radius lol

I put on 32x11.50's on mine, they rub when I turn all the way and Im goin 2mph faster than Im readin (checked with my handheld gps). and the power it there to turn em still I wanna do a 4 inch lift and a 3 inch body with 36's and 4.11's.

I've come to find that all those "little" mods usually give "little" results... Exhaust good sounding and it will make you think you have more power, same with an intake. Chips usually make a small noticeable increase in power and sometimes better mileage. It all just depends on your definition of oomph. More oomph usually comes with swapping heads, new cams, better lifters and rockers, new pistons... and that kind of stuff. In the end, it comes down to time and money and what you want to use your truck for. Just remember, you will never get out of your truck the money that you put into it. Mod your truck because you want to and have fun doing it!
