Default 93 f150 4.9l to a 5.8l?

i got a 1993 f150 4x4 4.9l 5spd. i also have a 1988 e150 5.8l that has 20,000 miles on a rebuilt in 1998. i was wondering if i would be able to swap my 4.9l out to the 5.8l. i know i would have to change the computer and the wireing harness. and also my one friend says i might be able to use the 5spd which is that mazda transmission. i told him i think i would have to change that. i just think a 5.8l 5spd would be great. what do you guys think i could do?

The engine swap isn't so much the issue. You have pretty much everything you need from the donor E150.

The trouble with your trans the M50D R2 for the I6 mounts to the engine differently it won't mate with the 5.8. I think it has to do with the starter.
One is inside the other outside.

Otherwise it would be much fun having a 5sp behind the 5.8.

I thought everyone has been saying the 4.9, 5.0 and 5.8 have the same bellhousing bolt pattern?

back in 98 is when we had a facotry rebuilt put in. and this one has ford racing valve covers. could this be a ford racing engine casue i remeber reading that they did quit making the 351 and only ford racing made them. if so what would the difference be or is it just still the stock specifications?

The bolt patterns may be the same, I'm pretty sure the starter goes inside the bell housing for the I6...I will follow up.

i have very little knowledge w/ the 4.9 but i'm pretty sure that ford only used them in the trucks and vans and in my mind they would have the same bolt pattern just so ford could put either and auto or stick behind all three as sean said. that just make sense because its not like the engine had to fit in anything else.

As far as the engine, your right ford racing does make them but they are in stock form, same hp and torque.

After looking though My 1992 shop manual.
It says the M50D is used behind the 4.9 and 5.0 engines. the M50D HD is used behind the 5.8. the bolt pattern looks the same but the "plate" between the engine and trans looks different. It does not say weather or not they will bolt up between the 4.9 and 5.0 I thinking yes.
