I got a 95 f150 4x4, I went off roading today and over the wash boards i got a constant noise from the front end, if i slam on the brakes really hard I get a pop sound, and over some harsh terain I get a rattle. The truck feels fine and acts fine, and if i get out and bounce the front of the truck it makes no noise, any ideas i am stumped. and this happens in 4x4 and 4x2

thoes are brand new only have like 2000 miles I even used polyurathane

Thats the only thing I can think of that gives noises under those conditions. There might be something else loose that is transmitting the noise to the front end. How are the motor mounts.

My truck did that before I replaced the outer front u joints. One leg was sheered off on both joint. On a smooth flat road, it made no noise. When the road turned bumpy, rattled like crazy obviously. Checked the play in in the front driveline so you can rule that out..

I have not had a chance to check anything yet due to school being busy, but I have an update to my problem. I had to slam on my brakes this moring locked up the tires (got cut off by an old lady..... I knew old people should not drive) any way when I slamed on the brakes I got a pop from the front end.

I found my problem. My bottom bolt that holds on the calaper on the driver side is stripped out, also the knuckle is stripped, but the calaper is able to move side to side on that bolt and that is what is making my noise. Next question is how hard is a steering knuckle to replace

It's pretty good amount of work. You will need to pull the hub/rotor off, pull the spindle, pull the shaft out, then pull the knuckle off. Everything needs to come off on the front before you pull the knuckle off. Would it be possible to re-drill and tap the knuckle instead of pulling it completely off?

You mines well rebuild the entire front end at that point. New bearings, races, ball joints, u joints if you need them and so on...

ya i just did it today, it was hell, I did put new ball joints in though, so much tighter, I had allready done axle pivot, and radius arm bushings, my bearing were like new so i kept them, so were my u joints, I only paid $55 for a knuckle that was in great shape
