I searched and found that a step bumper can handle 500 lbs tongue and 5000 lbs trailer which is more then I need as I will only be towing a tent trailer that weighs less then 2500 lbs with all of the gear and 2000 lbs dry weight. But what I found when searching didn't indicate which year of step bumper. Mine is a 92 f150 will that work ok? No rust at all and the bumper actually looks beefier then a class 2 hitch underneath. So what is the rating of my bumper? There is no label on the bumper itself. How do I do safety chains?

I use the bumper to haul just about everything i need. I have a 10 foot trailer and haul the four wheeler and mower just fine. I always thought about getting a reese hitch, but whats the point. The bumper does everything i need it too.

Then I will just use the bumper. I suppose I can just drill some hole on the back lip of the bumper for safety chains.

I dont remember, but there might be a tow capacity sticker on the door jam.

I know I have towed a tractor that weighed over 6k and it's trailer on the bumper. just gotta be careful of how you load it all.

i do remember this one time the bumper bracket broke off on one side while he was towin a tractor.
