Thumbs up eratic idle

Thank you very much its been a kinda slow process but one ive enjoyed very much. two summers now. Its been on my mind and bothering me. your info was definently needed. since then ive figured out i need to get the flexplate from a 351 truck with the C6 trans and itll be the same diameter and tooth set up for the e4od. other people have used it for a swap to it. Excited for winter to pass now so i can get the ol truck back burning the tires off. with that screamin little 302 and all those new parts haha cant wait!!! thanks again for the help and the point in the right direction.

Default eratic idle

I am getting sick of hauling all my work tools in a car!! Ill be a semi daily driver when its all set and done. I am wondering now that ive gotten a plan in mind, will the 28 oz harmonic balancer work with the later model engine fan asyembly? or will i need to get a new one of those as well of course matching the same fan blade style.

I think you should make a serious effort to find the person who built that motor. They would know what's inside it and what you need to balance it, theoretically.

My dad and brother built it years ago, been sitting in his garage. It's definitely a pre 80s block runs on the standard 302 firing order. So that would make it the 28 Oz balance. Any idea about if the later model fan assembly is the same as the early? I can't imagine they've changed it very much. I made the mistake of using the harmonic balancer and flexplate from my old motor and it was a post 90s block.

It could be an issue using the original one - or not, you'd have to compare them.
I would think that you're not the first guy to put an old style block in a newer style truck. I would think there's a good chance that somebody makes (or used to make) balancers and flex plates for exactly that purpose. No idea who, but maybe a speed shop that knows Fords might be a place to start.
Being as it sounds like it's not an emergency now, you've got a little time to do some research on that.
