Default I want to relocate my ignition coil

I want to use grade 8 bolts in place of the two studs that hold the bracket for the ignition coil, EGR DPFE, TAD and TAB solenoids. I have grade 8 bolts in the other 10 locations, so I just want to make it consistent and go 12 for 12 instead of 10 for 12.

I have some ideas on what I want to do, but I prefer to keep it as simple as possible.

Has anyone with the 5.0/5.8 ever relocated the ignition coil? Did you move the coil to one location and the actuators to another location?

I am thinking of fabricating a bracket to mount somewhere else, but I want to see what others have done.

I know I'm not the only one that has ran into this.

Any ideas?

I took a trip over to Lowe's and Home Depot to look at brackets and came up with an ingenious idea.

Stay tuned..........

There is a bolt that separates the ignition coil bracket from the bracket that holds the emission sensors.

So, with that in mind, I unbolted the two and got a 3/8 inch drill bit and opened up the two holes on the ignition coil bracket and mounted it on the a/c compressor bracket.

The stud on the other side of the ignition coil bracket will serve as a ground terminal location for the ground wire that mounted on the stud in the very back of the intake on the driver's side.

I'm still working on relocating the bracket that holds the emission solenoids.

Stay tuned..............

It all comes down to the intake manifold bolts. When looking at 20+ year old bolts, they become as brittle as toothpicks and are well known for breaking off in the head when trying to remove them or torque them down.

There are two intake bolts that are studs that hold the ignition coil. I do not wish to reuse these studs because they have a good reputation along with the other intake bolts of snapping off right in the head when removing or installing the intake manifold.

With this in mind, I want to use grade 8 bolts, which are very strong and secure.

What that also means is that I have to find another place to mount the ignition coil.

As for benefits, the main benefit is a 100% secure and durable intake manifold gasket seal due to using brand new grade 8 bolts. Also, in theory, in looking at the location that I've moved it to, the ignition coil may also be cooler seeing that it now sits right behind the engine fan.

I didn't do it for style or looks, I did it solely for functionality so that I could have all new intake bolts instead of 20+ year old toothpicks securing the intake.

I've never had an intake bolt snap on anything.

You are one lucky soul. I am about 1 for 5. They even snap on me when I'm using a torque wrench. I have no luck at all with them.

I moved mine to the inner fender when I installed the 351.. Since I had to do some wiring because of the lightning motor went ahead and extended the wires for coil. And used Ford racing wires, with the long coil wire.
