I put my battery cables on wrong.
Hi, I have a 1991 f150 5.0 I looked threw the forums but no one else did this so I'm post this is my first time so I don't know what I'm doing..
I took my battery out to put in a friends car (nothing wrong with wrong with the battery) and I put it back in my truck and I put the battery back in and I put the cables on wrong, I put positive on negative and yeah, retard mistake. I heard a pop when I turned on my switch and smoked, I realized I had put them on wrong and put them on right. So I checked all of the fuses none are burnt or anything but my voltage meter doesn't move anymore so did I blow a fuse or messed up the alternater how would I make sure?

I LOVE OLD FORD'S
i believe there is a fusible link on the positive line going to the solenoid. check power on all the positive wires down from the battery and where you stop finding power is where the fuse is, its not a typical fuse just some different looking wire.

yeah check out the solenoid . and the wires around there most likely the were hot and melted the wires. i had a bronco that my friend did that to . i let him borrow it and he put the battery back in backwards. if its the wires easy fix .

That is weird!
Normally or in my experience; if the Positive battery cable
is touched to the Negative battery post while the Negative/Ground
is connected, there will be a spark instantly!
Not when the the key is turned on...
As the other Guys said;
Check Fuse Links on wires going to or leaving Solenoid
Solenoid or "Starter Relay" on fender (Same thing)
If that is not the problem, you may have fried something else...
As texasedition asked; Will the engine start and run or just spin over?
We need more information when you log back on.
