Default How to put hub and rotor on 1990

you can see the grease seal on the inner bearing on the spindle.
the grease seal is moved behind the inner bearing when i slide the rotor and hub on. i feel like i need the grease seal to be inside the hub.

i can move the grease seal around. I dont know where it is supposed to be.

I need help putting the grease seal in the hub. does anyone know how to do this?

Pull the bearing and seal off spindle then clean the spindle shaft as clean as possible clean the old grease off the bearing regrease it put it in the hub.

I would suggest replacing the seal But you can clean the old one and check it for cracks in the rubber then take a small hammer and a block of wood and tap it back into the back of the hub or if you are real careful you can use just the hammer.

Have the outer bearing cleaned, repacked and ready to install, slide the hub back on the spindle I like to put grease between the two bearings around the spindle. Install the outer bearing ,washer and castle nut.

Tighten the nut to about 25ftlb while spinning the hub to preload the bearings loosen the nut a half turn then tighten to around 1ftlb or 15inlb put cotter pin back in and your good to go.

Should just slide off the shaft by pulling on them, you may have to clean up the spindle first and spray something on the bearing to get it freed up. But usually they are not that hard to get off.

here is the race of the bear which i need to separate from the spindle

here is the spindle part the its stuck to

here is the point in between which i am trying to get something in between to separate it.

i dont know if this is 100% correct but this is my guess

does anyone know what could be causing this to stick?
or a solution to get it off?
*remember i dont really have grip because i need to get the race off, not just the bearing which coud break!!!*

The rust that is built up in front of the bearing is probley what is holding the bearing on you will have to clean the build up off to the bare shaft so it will come off.

Also if you have a small brass punch you can go on the inner part of the bearing in front of the seal where it's on the shaft and lightly tap it with a hammer to break it loose.
You can use a steel punch if you are real careful not to hit the bearing rollers or the shaft.

You also mentioned the getting the race off? The part that is stuck is a one piece part and doesn't seperate the only other race is the one that is the hub itself.

Looks like to me, you need to just write off the bearing and use a torch to heat it up and break loose some of that rust. You might as well just buy a new bearings and seal. You already have it apart might as well replace it or reuse the old stuff and 30,000 miles down the road, have to tear it all down again and replace it when it wears out.

I pulled mine off once and it did the same thing. IF you reuse that bearing and seal you are asking for problems. the two together should be less the 20 bucks and about anyone will have them in stock
