Default blower motor questions...

Here i am again... My blower motor is making an awful squealing sound when its cold outside. sometimes it does not blow very hard no matter what the switch is on, could the motor be going out or is that the resistor?

Bearings in the motor might be dry, take the motor out, see if there is any resistance, if yes, take it apart and grease the bearings, common problem. 99% of the time the motor can be greased and reused.

Bearings are basically bronze bushings held in with retaining clips, not replacable, they will last a while dry. What you can try is to drill a hole the size of a spray straw on the small hump on the back of the motor and give a shot of white lithium grease, this will also tell if the bearing is dry. But be careful of the brushes if you the the motor apart.

Here is the trick with squeaky sealed motors such as you have. Get a high speed drill and either a 3/32 or a 7/64 drill bit. The best thing to use is a drill press if you have access to one. Look at picture below this is not what your motor will look like but is shows the the two areas I am talking about at the top you can see the "dome" and below there is a "dome" that is pierced by the motor shaft. Your motor will have something like this at the same locations. You will need to remove the squirrel cage blower get to this area on the motor shaft side. Take the drill with one of the bits listed above and very carefully drill a hole into the side of the dome all you want to do is just pierce the metal go no farther. drill the hole on the top as the motor is oriented in the blower housing. Inside this dome is felt that holds the lubricant for the bronze bearings. After many years of use this felt dries out. By drilling a small hole you can inject new oil into the felt. When this is done seal the hole with a little dab of silicone and you are good for another bunch of years. The oil I have always used for this is Zoom oil http://www.zoomspoutoiler.com/
I purchase this oil at the local Maytag dealer. if you look at the picture the red cap is the end of a tube that pulls out of the container to over a foot. Once you use this stuff like me you will never be without it.
I have saved numerous old blower motors, wiper motors and window lift motors doing this.

Forgot about the motor oil, Home deopt and Lowes also sells the oil, we use it on circulating pumps.

with me being such a tight wad, would regular motor oil work, like a heavy weight? like gear oil 85 90? i will be replacing my rear end this week and i could spare a few ounces.

Best to use motor oil so it will saturate the felt, gear oil is a little thick and it will smell like gear oil every time you turn on the heat.

...Would fluid film work on this? Just a thought, since I have one of the sample cans. If not, I THINK I have some white lithium in the garage somewhere or another. My brother may have taken it, sneaky bugger he is.
