By the airbox under the hood, plugged into a plastic holder labeled "EEC Test" or something similar.

Default Need to know how to get codes on my truck

Have 87 efi wit no engine light. Truck runs like crap and uses a lot of gas. I noticed the plug wire on one of the plugs was v cut to get it to go on the plug next to the exhaust manifold.

i tried this with just a simple piece of wire, and my check engine light didnt do anything but stay on. maybe you can shed some light on my problem. my truck was not warm or anything i just connected the wire and flip the key.i have a 92 f150, does the truck have to be warm or is there a short period of time before the light starts flashing?

Truck is supposed to be warm but codes will still flash cold. Make sure the check engine light isn't burned out.

ok so if i have a check engine light all i have to do is put a jump wire from the self test to the house shapped one with spade ends then turn the key on and watch for it to blink and wait then bink and wait, then thats the code, say it blinks blinks pause pause blink blink pause pause that would be code 22? how do you know when it goes for more than one code and they are called KOEO codes?
