Default Vortech Supercharger

So back in March I bought a 93 with the Vortech setup on it, stripped the kit out of and sold the truck. I had to rebuild the supercharger head unit, replaced bearings, seals and the impeller. Finally got it all together and running last night. I've waited to order an AEM boost/air fuel gauge with fail safe until I got it going. I'm ordering the gauge today.

I've gotten into it a bit and the power it adds is impressive. I don't dare hammer it for too long until I can verify the system is working correctly, don't want to melt a piston.

You're going to have to build a forged lower at some point.

Hopefully the motor I have will hold up to some boost, it's out of a 98 Explorer and has less than 10k on it. I was really just looking to bring the power level up to a level equal to the newer trucks. In normal around town driving the acceleration is a night and day difference. I rigged up a HF vacuum gauge and in normal driving it really never goes into boost.

Just to give an idea of the power difference I figure a qtr mile time should go from 17 seconds n/a to about 14 seconds with boost. It might even drop more than that after I get it dialed in.

As an added bonus I went from 16 to 18 mpg, first tank so hopefully it's not just a fluke. Full throttle at 5000 rpm it pushes 6 psi of boost, that seems right on target for high elevation. Should be about 8 psi at sea level. Don't have the air/fuel gauge in yet but I feel confident it's not running lean, the inline boost pump is working and msd timing retard box as well. I was a bit concerned all the components might not work as Vortech said it was purchased new in 2006.

Dollar per hp added a supercharger has got to be the best mod I've done to date.
