Default How to remove the AM/FM Stock radio from the truck?

Hey, i have a 95 f150 XLT, and i want to put an after market stereo in it, but i dont know how to take out the stock AM/FM cassette radio. Theres a hole on each corner of the radio, do i need some kind of tool to stick in there and unlock the unit or something??

Thanks

Yes, there is a special tool for Ford Radios, it should only be a couple of bucks at the parts store, or just find a thick coat hanger, cut two lengths about 8" bend into a large u, and stick the ends into the holes, and work it until it comes out. But the ends must go straight in.

Coat hanger's "shoulders" work well, but i had to swing the glove box down, and reach to the right side of the radio, as the unit didn't want to release on that side for some reason... but i got it out in one piece.

Strangerous is right. Mine was a bitch because the face came of and wire tool got stuck. May have abused a tool or two getting it out.

Can't recall exactly, but there may be a screw or two up under the dash. need to pull the ashtray to get to them, maybe.

OK. There is a plastic piece on the back of radio. It slides on a rail, kind of like those metal clips on a socket rail. I had trouble with that. It might have to moved around or something to release the radio. No guarantees about this, it's been awhile.
Many apologies, but I beg to differ.

My experience shows that my 1994 F150, and my father's 1996 F150 have the exact same interior, same gauges, and in this case, the same radio.

This leads me to believe that the 1995 model, even though it ends in an odd number, has the same.

It's a 9th gen F150, and uses the above mentioned method of removing the factory stereo. LOL
