Default Fuel System Issues

Ok, I will try to keep this somewhat short. I bought my 96 F-150 about 2 months ago. The PO told me that the front tank was full of bad gas. The truck runs fine on the rear tank but sputters and lags a lot on the front tank. However, the truck will run ok and keep highway speeds if you are easy on the gas pedal on the front tank but if you slam the pedal it starves for power and stops accelerating. This leads me to believe that it isn't just bad gas but a fuel pump problem on the front tank not supplying adequate fuel pressure to the engine.

Another issue that I am having is cross filling. I siphoned out about 6 gallons of fuel after I came out of the store to see fuel slowly seeping out of the front tank fuel cap. A bit later the fuel was seeping out again so gas is definitely leaking into the front tank for the rear.

OK, story is over, lol. Suggestions? I was planning on just replacing the front fuel pump and seeing if that fixed it as it is my #1 culprit. Then I started reading about these check valves in the fuel system to prevent cross filling. Are these check valves located within the fuel pump itself or somewhere else?

I also need to know if the front and rear tank use the same fuel pump. Rock Auto has the pump for $43.89 but it doesn't say if it is for the front or the rear pump.

Last but not least, any suggestions on emptying the gas out of this front tank before I drop the tank? I can only siphon a few gallons from the filler neck before it hits a mesh or something.

If you made it this far thank you for any advice. I appreciate it.
