I just had this problem last weekend. if the master cyl is bad it does not always leak, mine went bad and i tested it by removing the line under the master cyl (have to remove the roll pin 1st) have some one pump the clutch while your finger is over the outlet and if master cyl is good it will force pressure on your finger, so mine was bad and i replaced it, it takes a long time to bleed it and get a pedal but keep at it, you will bleed out all old dark fluid in the process.

Be advised that you CAN have a clutch master cyl. failure WIHTOUT loosing fluid -- the piston can get stuck inside the cylinder so it doesnt pump the fluid porpely but you still show a proper fluid level...

this happened to me twice on mah miatas

just a tidbit of info that might help you

See this is what I couldn't find be researching, thanks for this input. Everywhere says dumping fluid one way or another. I appreciate this info a ton as it may also may explain why there was extremely little fluid when gravity bleeding, and why the level didn't move then either... it was probably just all air and then the fluid never left the master.

Thanks, was really looking for a easy way to test this so this is valuable to me. Really hoping it's the master, if not well then slave and it gets rebuilt.

Tips on bleeding other than just keep going at it? lol
