All standard HID's are one brightness. No high, no low. Those that advertise hi/low use an electronic reflector that block a portion of the light or a motor that moves the bulb upwards for high beam. There are a few brands that have two HID bulbs of different intensity and are the most expensive. A Bi-Xenon uses an hid bulb and a halogen bulb. The halogen bulb works on high beam and is only there for inspection purposes. I won't get on my soap box and remind anyone how dangerous HID's are for headlight housings that were not made for HID's or how illegal they are in all 50 states. Nor will I tell you that I'd love to put a bullet in every aftermarket set because they're driver's don't care that no matter what, they scatter light very badly and they do blind people regardless of your thoughts. I have my reason for knowing this is fact and I beg every cop that I meet to write these tickets.

It's all good though. Not bashing any particular person, just the fools that sell these things and those that believe that they do not effect other drivers.

EDIT.............Okay came back to explain my beef calmly. I drive a rural ambulance for a living. I work 84 hours minimum a week and some times we get to sleep and sometimes we don't. Some times the weather is perfect and some times it's not. Factory headlight housings are designed to reflect a halogen beam at certain angles as to not spread light out of focus. They are not designed to spread the intense HID arc. Even a stock 55w halogen in a stock housing that is not properly aimed still blinds other drivers. It has no bearing that it's only a stock low beam headlight. So the theory that it's not that much brighter has no place in the argument. When I get someone's mom, dad or child in the back of my ambulance and I am trying to safely get them to the hospital along with my usually unrestrained paramedic, it can get dangerous. Most of us work at least 24h shifts and we get tired and at 3am, most of us run lights and sirens and don't exceed the speed limit just because we are tired and our reaction times suffer. The lights and sirens are there to warn other motorist that we're coming. When you round a corner on a rural road and meet a blinding light coming at you, it's very difficult to maintain that focus on the road side and not run off the road killing our patients and our partners. Add non-factory hid's and it becomes very dangerous. Add fog or rain and it becomes damn near impossible to do anything but try and stop until the danger passes. You just cannot understand until you do this day in and day out. HID's that did not come from the factory are not cool. They are dangerous to other drivers. Please keep us in mind.Hopefully, I'll change one person's mind and save someone's life from this illegal mod. Nope, I don't run a muffler and that is illegal too, but it's not going to blind someone going down the road and cause them to hit a tree head on. I'm not perfect and I bend the rules too, but I don't drive around with my gun hanging out the window with my finger on the trigger either. That's basically what aftermarket HID headlights are, like it or not.

What do you mean? Probably a stupid question but I don't know much about them. How do I go about doing that?

Take the front end off of a 92-96 F150 and put it on your 89.

The complete front end? Or just the headlights areas?

Complete front end! Remember the cell phone commercial with everyone destroying their cell phones to get a new one? Sound like an accident waiting to happen. Maybe a big oak tree sitting at the bottom of a hill and you forget to put it in park. Lol
