Default HELP! Truck Won't Start!

Hi Everyone,
I have a 92 with the 4.9 and after sitting for about a week my truck won't start. When I turn the key to the start position I hear a loud click, but no cranking at all. I just swapped out the starter hoping that it was the problem, but no change. It was running beautifully a week ago!

Any thoughts?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

This might sound stupid, but did you try jump starting the truck? You might have left something ON and drained the battery.

If that doesn't work, look into your ignition coil.

The battery is only about one year old and just measured in at 12.69 volts. Also, the alternator is about the same age.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

Do you know if there is any way to test the ignition coil before just replacing it?

Thanks!

Ignition coil wouldn't cause it to do that. Try cleaning all your cable connections including the ground from battery to starter

I had the same problem last week. There's a solenoid down by the starter that had gotten a little loose but once i slipped it back into place, the truck started right up no problem. I can't say for certain that it'll be the same issue for you but it's worth a shot

I did a little looking and testing around the starting system.... I also replaced the original starter so I could get a refund on the one that I just purchased. When re-installing the original one (this is a replacement that I installed about a year ago) I checked and cleaned all of the contacts. I checked the voltage at the positive terminal of the motor switch (the one on the starter motor assembly, not the one on the fender) and it is showing 12.7 volts. I also checked the voltage from the fender-mounted switch to the starter motor-mounted switch, which was 0 volts at KOEO and 11.5 volts when the key was held in the start position. The single click noise that I am hearing when the key is moved to the start position is coming from the fender-mounted switch. Since it is a relatively inexpensive part, I was thinking about just replacing it to see if it solves the problem.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I checked everything when I re-installed the starter motor assembly and it all seems to be tight.

I just replaced the starter switch (on the passenger fender well) and there is no change. I'm still just hearing a click when trying to get it started.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks!
