Default Manual Hubs vs Automatic

I just purchased a single owner 1995 F150 XLT 4x4. It came with the factory auto locking hubs in a box, and manual hubs installed on the front wheels.

I only have ever had auto locking hubs (on my nissan and my XJ).

Why would I want Manual hubs over Automatic hubs? What is the advantage?
