Default Heater Core Removal - 1987

Can somebody please provide step-by-step instructions on how to bet to my heater core? Something is leaking, but have no idea on how to get in there!

Thanks!

(1)Drain coolant below core level (2) remove hoses at the core tubes (3)remove the glove box compartment (4)disconnect temperature and function cables (5) from inside passengers compartment remove the 7 screws from the core access cover then remove cover(6) remove core(7)installation is the reverse of removal replacing any damaged seals

Default Temp fix

I am both short of time and $ right now. I believe I have spotted the two hoses that go thru the firewall to the heater core. As a temporary fix could I turn them into a loop by disconnecting one and hooking the remaining back into the engine (where they seem to come from)? I am actually getting water dripping from the under dash unit onto the floor, so need to do something quick. I'm in Southern CA, so not having a heater for a while is not a big issue.

Thanks

You should be able to pick one up at autozone for about $25 bucks.

Auto shop told me $200.00 for heater core (28.00 at Checker Auto Parts). plus $250.00 for labor = $450.00. No wonder shops get a bad reputation. I can work for far less.
Thanks for this forum.
