Default headlight switch?

i gotta a 89 f-150 and the stock switch was doin funny things u had to push it in jus the right spot to get everything on so i replaced it and the new one wasnt right so i returned it and got another new switch and it does the same thing as the stock one but it wont stay in that place and my lights are always flickering on and off . wen u put the switch in u have to use the old push rod and idk if i'm puttin it in wrong or wat??? any help would be nice

Wow I almost had a siezure reading that post... Sounds like you have a typical Ford problem with the plug on the light switch. Check that. If you push the rod all the way in it should click in and you should be able to use the switch normally.

some times on those old trucks you got to change the plug in .

I got a 88 and I had the same problem and the guy I bought the truck from just replaced it, but it was still acting like yours did. So I cleaned the plugs, then realized the wire going into them was shot. So I just changed the plugs and cleaned where they went, really good (remember to use dielectric silicone)Then I even cleaned the screws and the screwholes. Then I used a sanding bit on a drill to clean off where the switch goes onto the floor, just incase it was the ground. I know i prob did more then i had to but it works perfectly now.
