Default Getting performance from a 5.0

So I've got an 89 F-150 XLT lariat, short bed, 2wd, 5 speed,efi...

I would like to get the horsepower in the 250+ range...

So im wondering would it be worth it to ditch the old unefficient efi on my truck for a 4 barrel manifold and a holley 4 barrel double pumper.. maybe a 600cfm or so? I know I'd have to do something about getting the fuel pressure down... get rid of the egr system... Tell me about it...

Would going to a mustang intake be a better idea? A performace one suck as a bbk.

Cam's- What are the perks and negatives or going with a higher lift cam?

I'm goinng to do headers with 3 inch collectors for sure, with super 44 mufflers. no cats

i just need advice and ideas to make some power

un efficent??? Fuel injection is the best.
A good cam, headers and good exhaust will get you up there easy.

the truck intake has square holes and the mustang 5.0 are round, you have more flow with the intake you have.

Damn didn't know that...
The truck throttle body has two openings though... so that makes sense.
I Guess I can always just take my stuff off.. and paint it with some high temp paint... and while its off intall a cam

Anyone have recommendations on a cam?

I want goood low end torque, I'd like to have a semi lopey Idle, and horse power not way to high in the rpm band...

If bone stock at 185 horse power...
what should i be lookin at after getting rid of cats and doing true duals with flow masters... Headers with 3 inch collectors.. nice cam.. and cold air intake..?

a cold air intake means nothing on the older trucks, you want a set of heads and a manifold and keep the damn fuel injection.

I like a E303 cam,if you want low end torque .....save some money and time, put in 4:10 gears.
