Default Gauge cluster not working

Just bought a 96 f150 and the gauge cluster doesn't work. Any idea how to fix this? Speedo works just not the temp and oil gauge and gas gauge

Check all your fuses first of course. Then they may not be plugged in properly. Or you may need a new cluster or maybe just the gauges.

Not plugged in properly as mentioned. Possible wrong cluster from PO, remember the 96 is sometimes the parts black sheep.

I thought the cluster could be used just not the PSOM, I could be totally wrong but that's what I thought.

You can pull the connector from the ECT sender (not the sensor on top of lower intake, the one with just one wire on the back side of the engine) and ground it out {with the key on} while someone watches the cluster it should peg out or at least move. If it moves then your problems are with the sending unit, if it doesn't then cluster is your issue. If cluster is issue ensure that the chassis grounds are all good, check for power at the connectors, if all passes then you need to replace the cluster. If no power present {key on} then you have a wiring issue or computer problems.

Just to clarify the above thought, from all the research I've done it would appear that the clusters are specific (due to wiring changes on the printed circuit on the back) to certain model years - 92 with 93, 94 with most of 95, very late 95 with 96- but the PSOM will interchange across the board - however the later versions mid 94 to 96 were upgraded to be less sensitive to a poor signal from the VSS.
Your mileage is stored on the card attached to the back of the PSOM, so for those of you swapping in a tach cluster, you would want to swap your PSOM into the new cluster to maintain your correct mileage.
The PSOM can also be programmed to compensate for a change in tire size (to make your speedo read right).
That's what info I have been able to gather and as far as I can tell, all that is correct. But if someone knows for sure that something is different, I would like to hear about it.

Pull the wire on the Oil pressure sending unit and ground it out to see if it pegs out on the gauge cluster.

Don't let the 96' gauge cluster scare you... Those gauges that fit inside the cluster are plug any play for all the 92-97 years. You will only have to rewire the harness if you swap out the entire cluster to a older year.
