Default 195 F150 XTL Heater Core

Hi,

I've seen posts about heater core replacement in trucks >1997, and I have heard that's the year that they redesigned it so you had to remove the dash.

Can anyone tell me if I'm lucky enough to just be able to replace this through the glove box, or do I need to perform major surgery?

The heading should have said 1995, not 195.

Thanks

In my 93 5.0 I did not have to remove the dashboard to replace the heater core. There were seven screws to get to. The cover is easier to remove and replace if you squeeze and unclip the hose clips at side and linkage at top of cover.

Default Location?

That's great, if mine is the same.

What is the location of this "magic box"?

Thanks.

You were right in thinking you go through the glove box opening (remove glovebox). It's tight in there but it can be done. I forget the size socket you will need but I had a baby wrench and a 1/4 ratchet with two sockets one deepwell (the shortest extension I had was still too long) and one regular socket. When you finally get cover off, you should be able to work the heater core out downwards (because of ac vents)

You have to give Ford credit for making the core accessible, it's a pity it's not possible on the later ones - so many vehicles make it uneconomical to do and pose a risk you'll mess something else up or end up with squeaks and rattles.

Default Done!

I replaced the heater core. Took all of 45 minutes. Darn that was easy!

I got rid of my Jeep Sport 4x4 just because the heater core was bad, and I wouldn't pony up the $450 to have it done.

Traded her even for this F150, and I got the better end of the deal.

Thanks folks!
