I've done some searching and so far can't find a solid answer so help would be much appreciated. My question is is it the Temp Sending unit on the side of the block or the Engine Coolant Temp sensor towards the front of the block that controls the gauge? The truck is a 91 4.9L EFI. I've seen diagrams and everything else I just need to know which one to replace to get my gauge working. Thanks for any advice.

I had the same problem on my '89. I replaced the thermostat (which is on the block) and the coolant temp sensor, which is on a small hose that comes off the radiator and heads to the back of the engine compartment (parallels another small hose). If you pop the hood these 2 hoses should be on your left, and the sensor should be sticking up, with the electric wires running to the back of the compartment as well. It has an electric connector that just plucks right off, should see 2 metal prongs inside the plastic collar if you take off the connector. I'm sure there's a fancy name for the hose, but I can't think of it. It's a cheap part, but don't buy the wrong one (I did), make sure you unscrew the original sensor and bring it in to the auto parts store, or you end up making multiple trips like I did.

Whatever dude, I'm not lying when I say the search button did not work on my mobile app. I tried multiple times with more subjects than just this and every single time the app crashed. Had I been near a computer I would've got on it.
