Sooo I cleaned out the tb and iac valve and put everything back together and started her up and put the truck thru all gears and this is what started to happen... is this panic mode or could it just be something burning off??

Did it stop smoking or just keep going? That looks like the smoke that you get from a top end cleaning with Seafoam. Did you end up spraying a bunch of TB cleaner into the manifold? If so, maybe you loosened up a bunch of crap that was burning off.

UPDATE: so after the smoke from the exhaust, I decided to change my spark plugs and man did that help. My idle is wayyy smoother now and she fires up much easier. Also- the smoke from the exhaust hasn't returned yet. I'm assuming it was something just burning off for now. Just after I replaced my spark plugs, I was having the truck idle and switching thru all the gears when white smoke started coming from under the hood!... I immediately shut the engine off and opened the hood to see where it was coming from and it seemed like it was from the bottom left side of the engine. My uncle in-law seems to think I could just need a valve gasket replaced but also- you have to remember this truck sat for 5-7 years so it could just be burning more fluid/condensation off... the smoke under the hood hasn't returned so that's good. My latest issue is a two-part issue: I have been limited with driving this truck as she's not inspected and my brake pedal goes to the floor. But when I do start her up I drive forward and backwards in the driveway. What I'm noticing tho is that it will shift into Reverse much easier than drive and a lot of times when I shift to drive, the truck stalls out. Especially if my foot is fully on the brake pedal and I shift into drive, the truck will stall. If I leave my foot off the brake pedal the truck will shift into drive but you can tell it's a difficult shift. Also- when I hit the gas in drive, the truck doesn't accelerate but it does accelerate in reverse... I can only creep forward in my drive gear... I fear this is transmission issues. FINALLY: tonight I tried to switch my transfer case lever into 4H as it's always been in 2H and the shifter is not moving at all. Am I missing something? From what I can tell, I should hit up the joints with wd40 to loosen things up.
Also was able to run codes but between all the beeps and lights I can't tell if these are 2 or 3 digit codes so here's the numbers:
637121654621 ... long pause... 1122542634637122542634637
I think I need to just buy a scanner that displays the code number.

Sorry for the rant but if nothing else this is turning into a nice journal while I try to work thru getting this truck on the road.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

My 4X4 shifter is still not moving. I've hit it up with pb blaster and will keep trying on it but this weekend I think I have some projects in front of me:

1. taking off the transfer case lever to see why it's not operating properly
2. dropping the transmission oil pan to see what I can see.

I've heard of the filter falling off and causing stalling problems and I'm sure this transmission fluid has never been changed. Hopefully I can find the reason why my truck mostly only shifts into reverse and not drive. Saw a video where I should probably drain the torque converter as well. Is this ridiculously hard to do? Also- I still have no acceleration when I hit the gas pedal. She just revs and revs.

Smoke issues are gone and she idles pretty smooth. I'll post pics if I remember.

Pull the dipstick and smell the transmission fluid. If it smells burnt I'd say you smoked something internal.

What fluids did you change before you got it running and up to now?

Just basic stuff so far:
-oil/oil filter
-topped off radiator fluid
-air filter
-new battery
-cleaned tps and iac
-cleaned throttle body
-filled up power steering fluid
-filled up brake fluid
-changed spark plugs

*transmission fluid doesn't smell burnt (to me) but it is a darker red color. also- my driveway is on a slight angle so the transmission level reading is off and I can't tell if it's low or not, but I heard if it's low it may not shift into drive. Better just drop the pan and start over.

Happy 4th yall-
Dropped the pan today and it must have been done before already bc the gasket looks pretty new. It appears whoever did it used some kind of sealant on the pan tho so I'll be shaving that off with a razor. Magnet doesn't look too bad and I don't think the trans fluid looks bad, right? Definitely does not smell like it's burnt at all... After mixed reviews on different forums, I don't think I'm gonna drain the torque converter. I'm already past my comfort zone here when it comes to vehicle maintenance and I think I'll just let that sleeping dog lie for now. Seemed like I got just over 4 quarts to drain out of just the pan, is that normal? Seems high? I was hoping for a low amount of fluid which I could then relate to why the truck doesn't want to engage in drive but I'll attach the pan and fill up the fluid and hope that helps somehow. I now know I have the E40D transmission if that helps anybody. Any thoughts on what I check next if my fluid change doesn't help my drive gear? Much appreciated as always- Thanks-
Oh ya- what's this electrical connector go to? can't seem to find his home and it's been dangling there since I got the truck.

I can't help with the connector, but it does look like there might be a crack on the boot of you ignition coil wire. It might just be a shadow in the picture, but I would check anyway since that can lead you to getting an arc from the coil wire to the nearest surface

Also, it does look like the fluid could be changed. New fluid is bright/cherry red.

P.S. If you have any trouble with lingering bits of the old sealant after scraping I have had luck (on my differential cover) with using 0000 steel wool (I get it at Lowes in the sandpaper aisle) as a final clean-up. It gets the remnants off without scratching the mating surface.
