noticed my truck had a decal stating it is equipped with an ambulance package anyone know what it is or consist of any help woud be great

Along the lines of 'dont put your fingers under the lawnmower' and 'dont blowdry your hair in the bathtub'. Just incase someone wants to turn their truck into an ambulance, you know?

well i was looking into putting new leaf springs in the back and wasnt sure if it had heavier duty leafs in the back

It IS equipped with an ambulance prep package?
In your manual it should tell you all about it. I believe mine told me why I shouldn't put an ambulance box on my frame.
F250 or 350 leaves, plug and play into your truck, if you're 2wd they'll lift you up 2" in rear, 4wd you'll stay where you're at if you dont reuse the stock lift bumpstop. I did that swap, any questions just ask.

From a quick google search, what I am reading is it has an upgrading charging system, and front suspension. I dunno all the specifics, just what google led me to. Here's a post from another forum where the guy supposedly checked with a dealer concerning this package also.

I double-checked with my Ford dealer, and I was right. Of course.

There is no such thing as an ambulance package on a pickup. It has to be either a chassis cab truck or a "cutaway" van chassis. Ford requires all dealers to include the "option" code for "this is not an ambulance" on all trucks that do not have the ambulance pkg.

The diesel engine in a 2009 cutaway van chassis is a 6.0L. The diesel engine in a 2009 chassis cab truck is a 6.4L. You can now even get a 6.0L diesel engine in a 2009 F-350 Super van. So don't believe those that say you cannot get a 2009 diesel-powered Ford van.

The dealer said almost all ambulances are on the cutaway van chassis instead of the chassis cab chassis, because of the walk-through ability in the van.

And yes, the ambulance pkg includes dual altenators. I asked if any of the rules regarding the ambulance pkg have changed in the last few years, and he said no.

One thing puzzles me. Ford said they couldn't make the 6.0L engine comply with 2008 emissions requirements, so they had to come out with a new engine, the 6.4L. But now they backtrack and say the 6.0L is fine in a 2008 or 2009 cutaway van.

(No indication why the 2009 vans have the 6.0L instead of the 6.4L. My guess is the van engine is different because it has no intercooler, so Ford didn't want to develop and get EPA approval of another engine combo. It was easier to add the exhaust system from the 6.4L to the 6.0L than to test the 6.4L with no intercooler.)

its a 2wd thats leveled but the leveling kit didnt do much cause back already sits up another 2 inches higher still and stock f150 leaves cause my passenger side is bent from when it was wrecked about 3 years ago

A true ambulance package will have a sticker on the door frame that says, "Incomplete vehicle identification number", unless it is a full van body ambulance, which we hate because there is no room to work in the back. They just go through conversion. A box unit van comes from the factory with the cutaway body. We run 2006 - 2008 Ford E-350's and E-450's and they are all van cutaways except for the e-350 vans we run. Never paid allot of attention to the pickup chassis ambulance since we don't have any. I've never seen a pickup chassis walk through, just FYI. Dual alternator's on some, single on others, oil cooler, transmission cooler and of course dual batteries at 12 volts on some. Some of the van cutaways had no options for under hood batteries at all and were built specifically for boxes with battery compartments. We run 7.3l turbo and 6.0l turbo diesels and a couple of non turbo 7.3 full van body's. The 6.0 is by far the worst engine Ford ever put in an ambulance. We run them hard and have constant issues with blowing turbo hoses off, fuel leaks at the intake manifolds and for some reason we can't keep oil dipsticks tubes in them. On the van chassis, we have to pull the motor to replace the oil dipstick tubes on a regular basis! The 7.3's just keep on purring with normal maintenance. Our owner will not buy new ambulances. We just purchased three 2006 models at $3K each with just over 100K miles. Just getting broke in good. Allot of departments have a 100K mile trade in policy. If you ever need a good parts vehicle or engine, by far cheaper to by a used ambulance. Great maintenance records and they average around $5K. Ford can talk about what standards they have regarding what engine in what year and what options were or were not available, but we have 14 of them and every one is different. They sometimes spend months in the shop because of these issues. Engine ID's and vin's match up and nobody can explain why this engine is in this van or why this alternator is in this van or it's suppose to have this and doesn't. We even have extended cab van cutaways. In the ambulance world, they are the cadillacs! Lay the seat back with the ac on high and snooze!!!!! With ANY Ambulance package, especially a truck body that's been converted from an ambulance back to a truck (seen allot of them), the most important thing you can have is the conversion schematic. It's worth more the vehicle itself in the long run. Without the original wiring schematics, they can be a nightmare and the ambulance conversion companies usually don't maintain a copy of them for more than a couple years, if at all! Ambulance companies come and go and if they've made changes such as alternator swaps, turbo or transmission upgrades, they may not be around next year to help you figure out what went wrong.
