Default firing order on 89 F150

I just installed new sparkplugs, wires and distributer cap on my F150. We thought we had the correct firing order, but now my truck won't start, unless jumped and won't idle. Can anyone give me suggestions to try?

Ford engines are numbered front to back - for the V engines, #1 is the front cylinder on the passenger side, #5 is the front cylinder on the driver side.

302 (5.0L) - 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
351 (5.8L) - 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 (also 5.0L HO, as I've heard)
300 (4.9L) - 1-5-3-6-2-4

My biggest problem has been landing one-off on the distributor cap.
For the V engines - the #1 cylinder 'should' be at about the 12 o'clock position, looking down at the cap from the front. My particular cap has a handy-dandy '1' molded in the cap at this location. Rotation is counter-clockwise.
Not sure where the 6-cylinder #1 cap location should be positioned. *edit* Rotation is clockwise.
