Default 95 XL refurb

Olds442111 fine post & pictures on reviving the 93 got me thinking about a resto on my 95 F150. Initially, I got it to complete a move, but found my self really liking this truck. It's a '95 F150 XL with a 4.9L 5-spd, 2wd 8' bed with 54,000 miles.

I almost bought a new 94 F150 but bought a small truck instead (big mistake). The compact truck was useless for my purposes. Cab too small for anything, bed useless, basically underpowered & undersized in every category. Hell, the mileage wasn't even that much better (19/24-mpg vs 19/15-mpg). I owned a '03 Silverado (base truck), but the 4.3 just didn't cut it. Considered another base truck this fall, but either the body style or the current base motors didn't do anything for me.

I'll try to snap a couple pics & post later in this thread. To date, I've replaced the spring shackles/hangers, Radius arm bushings & brackets, & purchased a set of Michelin LTX tires for it.

Next, I plan to replace the coil spring towers, & all suspension bushings & install new ball joints. My goal is to build this to go at least another 100,000 miles.

with a 4.9l, 2wd, 5spd => your 'goal' for another 100k is selling your truck short by probably 150-200k miles. just keep oil in it, keep 'performance' mods to a minimum, keep her greased and fix the issues as they arise and you should be G2G. the body will rust away or we'll die probably before that engine will.

Yeah the 300 I-6 is a good lil engine that isn't a high maint child. Just routine everyday maint and they run forever. Hell, my truck has the original 302 in it, and has 236K on the odometer. If a V-8 can do that, a I-6 ought to go 400K w/o worry

Good to hear, thanks. I'll probably put new front springs on it as well, want the geometry to be as new to minimize tires wear.

Last tank I got 19mpg on hwy. Last time loaded with trailer & loaded to the gills bed, got 14.5 mpg. Happy camper here.
