I've had all kinds of aftermarket mufflers on different vehicles over the years. Cherry bomb glass packs are what they built their company on, they sound good and seem to last, cherry bomb mufflers sound good but just do not hold up to salt (mine rusted and fell off in one year). Flowmasters are still my favorite, affordable, sound good and hold up to salt about as good as a muffler can. Just my 2 cents

Just curious, for you guys with salt issues, what about painting these mufflers with a good exhaust paint prior to installing them?

I did that with my last car. I was very thorough about it. Painted everything prior to assembly, then painted any scuffs or scratches that happened during the install. I also like to use stainless band clamps with sealant under them for the joints (nothing rots out quicker then the cheap u-bolt clamps). All of this helped. The exhaust was holding up nicely but after the third winter it was starting to rust a bit. Nothing lasts forever around here no matter what you do. Unless you want to drop really big $$$$ on all stainless. Even when you do that you end up with a hangar or something rotting off the vehicle and still end up working on exhaust!! It's a never ending battle, haha. Luckily it seems like auto manufacturers are using higher quality exhaust systems. My 07 Pontiac and 11 escape both still look very good underneath. I would love to mod the Pontiac exhaust but I just can't bring myself to cut up a non-rotten exhaust!

Well so far I have just hacked the muffler and side exit off of it. But the cut is very clean so I can use a coupler if I want to put t back on for any reason. The CAT is definitely the cause of my problems. The exhaust now just ends about 3 feet after the cat and it sounds good but not nearly as loud as the true dual cat-less straight pipes that it had before.

Honestly it will be louder with the muffler. Or at least appear louder. It resonates and brings out the low sounds.

I tried the whole glass pack thing and your right the cherry bomb that's on it now is a muffler looks similar to flowmaster super 10

Well upon buying the coupler, I found that the piping used by the exhaust shop is 2.25 out diameter. Needles to say I'm pissed. I didn't realize this before. They stole up the ended to fit into the 2.5 inner diameter parts I brought to them. I now am convinced it needs to be redone. If I'm running y pipe to single out like I have should I be using 2.5 or 3 inch pipe? Also is this restrictive piping they used diminishing the loud sound?

Of course smaller pipe reduces sound like on a trumpet. 2.5 or 3" is fine for performance. I feel 3" is louder. I'm running 3" after the factory cats and y pipe and its a decent rumble. But as I always say that's a subjective measurement and all a matter if opinion. We could take measurements with an SPL meter and a frequency meter but who has those?
