Leaky manifold would do it if its bad enough! My buddy had that problem

I do definitely know that it leaks where it connects to the exhaust pipe. But I wanna know what makes a leak change it? Any tips to get the bolts off?

I have a 94 w/302. Put a flowmaster on and couldn't tell a diff myself. Took it off and cranked it up with just the 2 cats, same quiet sound. Ordered new y-pipe from summit and a hi-flow cat, reinstalled flowmaster and now I get sound! Seems the two cats are just too restrictive.
