Exhaust sound problems
I have a 1989 f150 5.0l all stock exhaust and engine and I got a thrush welded muffler and it doesn't sound right. I know they sound similar to flowmasters, and I know the muffler isn't damaged because I had it on a different vehicle and it sounded good. It just sounds like I didn't put anything on at all.

How many cats were on the other truck and how many do you have on yours? Mine has two cats and my system was gone from the second one on back. It was never loud. I have no smog test up here so I just put a tail pipe in and straight piped it from the cats to the tail pipe.

For one thing it's not a flowmaster so it won't sound like one. And with two cats and one pipe he will never get any sound with them in. Do have to have a IM test in your area?

Well, it sounded like a flowmaster on my jeep, plus they are pretty much cheaper versions. Same design in the inside. -I didn't hook the tailpipe up so that's not a problem. -I'm not sure if we do here or not. Would a leaky manifold donut effect it?

I'm running a similar Flomaster knockoff. It makes plenty of volume with both cats in place. I have shorty headers to the stock y pipe and cats then step up to a 3" tube , muffler with a 90* before the rear wheel.
