Default Exhaust manifolds

I know that this is a truck forum, however I have a ford van. Engine wise things should somewhat be the same.

93' E350 cutaway 5.8L. I have had this vehicle for about 8 years. During this time I believe that I have replaced the exhaust manifolds at least three times. (because of cracking) Can anyone tell me what is up with that?
It is getting just a little annoying.

I wished the made a shorty header for it, although if I understand correctly they can crack just the same.

Thanks Mike

Depending how much room you got to work with you can use 5.0L or 5.8L headers. Mustang 5.0L headers ect.... You may have to custom Bend a Y-pipe... You may have to take a Hammer to the firewall... Only way to find out is to try.

Also, if the EGR hooks into the Passenger side header you will need to get headers with EGR adapter in it or cut and weld one in it....Or delete it and run with a check engine light on.

Hopefully you've bought them thru one of the part chains that lifetime warranty the part. That aside my first thought would be not enough flex or too much flex from the motor mounts or exhaust hangers.

+1 - Motor mounts or exhaust hangers. Especially the exhaust hangers.

Vans are a little tighter - air space more heat buildup. Is your air pump working ? It would cool the exhaust if it was - if it wasn't though ... It came up somewhere else and if it's an ongoing problem, maybe that could affect the manifolds.

The air pump goes straight to the cat. How will that affect the manifold. I've had this problem since first acquiring the van. I have since removed the cat. So either the cat was partially clogged and making extra heat or it want an issue. If of course it really needs to be there to prevent cracking manifolds, then so be it. What about vans before cats. I will hope for another problem.

Any advice for adding a hanger near the engine?

cast iron is a brital metal when its either super cooled or super heated, if your constantly cracking them chances are its something your doing no offence. lol usually this is a mud truck problem ive seen before, ive deduced they crack theres from high throttle wich super heats the e. manifolds and then when they plunge into that cold water repeatedly the effects of super hot to cold repeated takes its toll and most end up with headers after that, ive seen them crack while being put on from over tightening ,, its a good idea when messing with the exhaust when you first put the new ones on put them on snug then drive around for awhile then re snug them tight. ive seen a guys split from re gasketing with 2 gaskets vs just 1 per side soon as he tightend click went the manifold .. good luck. if it were me I would stay away from hedders on a van . deffinetly heat wrap those suckers if you do that though, and they should make shorties that will fit , im willing to bet the ones I just pulled off of my truck would fit, unfortunately I got them at a swap meet and have no clue who made them , I know they came off a turboed 5.0 so the piping was extra tight and fit like a charm in my truck only issue I had was heads were different on exhaust ports so I had an ovaled pipe over a rectangular hole,, it worked though lol
