I recently bought a 1994 Ford F-150 single cab 4x4 INLINE 6 300cc and just wondering what the best muffler to use to get a real good deep throaty exhaust? Plus what size pipe should I use and should I get a different header and if so what type? Cause I would like to get a muffler with one in two out type muffler or should I get a regular one in one out and just get a y-pipe?

We have a ton of posts listed on mufflers. Sound is all about personal taste. Check u tube or the local cruise spot to find the sound you like. Performance depends a bit on your engine. Do a search to find tons of facts and opinions. In general you need a crossover, x, y, or h pipe. Headers of any kind will help a little. You won't really notice much difference between dual or single for power or mpg. Dropping cats can make a little bit louder but makes it illegal, smell like fuel and can cause check engine light to illuminate. There is no performance gain. Most people drop the tail pipe before the axle. 2.5" to 3" max is the rule of thumb for pipes. Baffled mufflers sound deeper ( ie flowmaster ) glass packs have a more raspy sound. Some studies show baffled provides a better flow by specially designed baffles but that is always up for debate. Glass packs use fiberglass wadding to tune sound which burns out over time and changes the sound. Turns decreases sound volume and can eliminate drone. Flairs increase volume like a megaphone. If you are talking about splitting into 2 pipes after the muffler ( which is after the y pipe and cats ) there is no real advantage its just aesthetics. Just go with the look you like. Don't forget you have to work around the stuff under your truck. Gas tank, spare tire, frame, and axle. Plus you need to have somewhere to hang the pipes if you start making bends.

Like he said its all about preference but I can vouch that on the 4.9 (inline 6) most performance mufflers, glass packs included, seem to sound like they're buzzing. So you can have a deep throaty tone but it'll sound, quoting many users on here in this, like an angry bumble bee when you get on it. On my truck I cut the exhaust off after the first cat where it's 3 inch pipe. It has a deep throaty tone and sounds really mean and intimidating but when you get in the higher rpm range it has a really obnoxious drone that, if you windows are up, almost makes your ears pop when you shift.

As for the headers, depending whether or not your truck has the one or two piece manifolds, they have very good flow and you will get very little if any power gains. The two piece are very free flowing whereas the one piece is more restrictive. Also if your truck has the more complicated emissions stuff on it, I believe it's just 95 and 96 but anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, you will have to bypass it to put aftermarket headers on. The cons far outweighs the pros in that case.

Keep in mind the sound is determined by the number if cylinders. The more you have the more firings per revolution the smother the sound. There is nothing you can do to make a 6 sound like an 8. Try comparing a 4 to a 12.
