I have 278,000 miles on my truck (1994 f150 4.9L) and it has just started to act up. While I am driving the engine will just die. It turns over but will not re-start. I do not get the fuel pump spin-up. After about two hours the fiel pumps will come back on and it will start up again. Also when I have turned the engine off it will immediately re-start, but if I wait 15 - 30 minutes it will not re-start until the engine is completely cooled down (2 hours). I have pulled the codes they are 211 and 452. I have replaced the distributer and the PIP sensor and the fuel pumps and filters are almost new (1 yr).

I need my dependable truck back.

It sounds like the computer relay may be going bad.

I am really new at this. What computer relay are you talking about? I believe that there is a PCM computer from reading the possible codes, but I don't if that is the right one.

There are two relays, one for the PCM and one for the fuel pump. They should both be attached to the air box.

Continuous Memory DTC 211 indicates two successive erratic Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP) pulses occurred, resulting in a possible engine miss or stall.

DTC 452 indicates the PCM detected an error in the PSOM output signal during the last 40 warm-up cycles.

PSOM= Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module

Best thing for you to do is to bring it to a dealer, because you dont have the tools to do the diagnosis yourself. these DTC deffinitions came from the ford tech website. something us dealer techs have access too. so bring it to a dealer.

Just because you work for a dealer doesn't mean you need to push people toward the dealer service department. It totally isn't necessary, the codes he got aren't the cause of his problem. Maybe the 211, but he has already changed the distributor so it shouldn't be an issue anymore. The 452 is just insufficient input from vehicle speed sensor. Commonly this is caused by bad wires near the plug to the sensor, or a bad sensor. Hardly something the dealer must do.

im not trying to say that every little issue you should bring to the dealer. but when you are faced with the issue of if a module is bad, a routine of Parts till it starts is very costly. I have been there. dealers don't screw you over like they use to. dealers have Huge costs over their heads too. i was laid off from the dealership i worked at because people were deciding to do more repairs themselves and then they bring their cars/trucks to the dealer and tell us that we screwed something up.

I wasn't trying to be a jerkoff, just offering simpler suggestions that are more likely the cause. That module going bad would be rarer than the other causes I listed. I wasn't suggesting the dealer would screw anyone, just that going there isn't necessary at this time. He already changed the PIP, and the other code won't keep the truck from starting. I do hope you have found another job since your layoff.
