Mine's got a bad pan gasket too, doesn't leak enough to warrant fixing in my eyes, it would take well over a years worth of leaking just to add up to the cost of the gasket, and weird enough my gf's 99 eldorado happens to have the same problem.

Most northstars develop a rear main leak. That's why GM put a 7 quart oil pan on!

I have always heard " Oil is Oil " but I usually stick to one brand if I can.

For the most part it's true, as long as you aren't using some junk oil such as City Star or Everclear (lol not to be confused with the cheap alcoholic beverage).

I use to use the expensive stuff, then I just switched to the cheapo shmeapo autozone brand stuff. Never had a problem. The internals are as clean as ever.

Cheap store brand oil is fine. That's what I broke in my new engine using. The City Star and Everclear stuff I was jokingly referring to was the stuff that failed testing so badly, some states banned it lol.

I'm a fan of Walmart Supertech. Especially the high mileage. I was actually kinda upset that Walmart doesn't make 5w-20 Supertech High Mileage for my Ford Focus, but the Havoline High Mileage 5w-20, which was the next cheapest thing I could find has been great.
