Default engine control module

what exactly does this do. cause i took one off a 302 and put it on a 460 and didnt no if it would make a difference.

It's the computer, it controls basically everything on the truck. It computes info from all the sensors to adjust the way the motor runs (rich/lean mixture, advance/retard timing, etc) I wouldnt think your 460 would run with a computer from a 302, and if it did, it definitely wouldnt run well

it runs i dont know if runs well i never drove one before so i dont know what to base it off of. it seems more hesitant in higher rpms.

the ECM are basically the same but you WILL need the mapping for the larger engine...

Each engine has it's own timing map and fuel curve....the ECM you have now (for the 302) assumes you have the smaller #hour injectors and it giving the pulse width for those injectors....basically a shorter width cycle or duration cycle...

all you need to do is find the correct 460 ECM or set yours tot eh 460 specs...

with a tuner you can set the maps yourself....with a laptop of coarse...

i wouldnt know how to set it up my self so ill just put the other one on tonight. i was highly suprised it worked but i did forget to mention something. that it is off of a 302 with mass air so shouldnt it actually adapt.

Well if you have the computer for that engine, I would use it. I don't know how different the sensors and electrical are between the 302 and 460, but I would imagine you're going to have compatibility issues, and probably check engine lights

k i found out something interesting the other day. i had oreillys do me a parts cross reference. and it turns out they are the exact same ecm.
