ECT sensor...
Hi all!
Long time lurker...first time poster here
So right to the details
My 92 is getting **** poor mileage and after recieving my code reader in the mail yesterday i believe it to be the darn ECT after getting a 118 code, along with some pesky EGR codes as well, but ignoring those atm.
Question is, i am trying to determine which part to pick up at the local store. Here is the part I believe it to be and am basically just needing confirmation this is correct http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Coolant-Temperature-Sensor-BWD_3461785-P_290_R|GRPSENSAMS_575653328___#
Thanks for your help
Chad
If the above link doesn't work, can you please find the correct part at Advance Auto...Thanks again
Edit:
Crap...forgot...its a 92 2WD 5.0

Your parts search inicates the parts for a 93', but I don't think it matters for that part. Your doing your E/C scans w/ the engine at norm. op. temp. right? Using the #3145? Beats counting flashes for $22. It tells you if the codes are O, R, or C. It really helps denoting which type it is. Not so much on this one, but when you want to deal w/ the EGR codes. If you've never removed, cleaned the EGR & mount portways & inspected it's diaphram, this would be a good time.

I double checked...i have the 92 listed as my vehicle on Advance's website...so...not sure where the 93 is coming from..? /shrug
You know its my fault for not verifying that the truck was indeed warmed fully, tho i did leave it running for a good 5 mins before starting the test...so i just assumed. Even so...the 118 code showed up on the KOEO self test and continuous memory test...then again on the KOER
The KOER test defaulted to the 998 Failure mode and then spit out the 118 code once again...so I can only really assume that sensor is bad.
A side question here...the O2 sensor...should i look into replacing this as well? I did not receive a code for it, but without really knowing how a 02 sensor works. My thought is its been "choking" on this rich mixture for quite some time...can it become "clogged"?

Let's hope the 998 lay's low!

Oh man...i feel foolish...
So i went out and took a look under the hood to verify wiring and sensor placement to see what tools i might need.
Lo and behold...the ECT wasn't even plugged in.
So for the last year or so (since i replaced the thermostat anyways) it hasn't even been plugged in.
Needless to say, after plugging it in...clearing codes...i now get a 111...systems pass!
Not sure if i will see a mileage increase or if the EGR codes will pop up again, but will keep an eye on it since i got this new code reader.
Thanks for your guys help, and i will for sure be posting again.
