Default Limited Slip on a Dana 44?

I purchased a rear end from a guy who had a truck with an H9B axle code because I wanted to get a limited slip in the rear. Apparently the "B" suggests a factory limited slip differential up front as well, which I did not even know they had.

Anyone ever come across one of these? Pros/Cons? I really only use 4WD in snowy/icy conditions (rare) and on the occasional BLM road (summer), but this guy's prices are really reasonable so I want to jump on it if it is worth it.

And then if it is worth it to get it, what should I offer for it? I only need the pumpkin. I paid $150 for an entire rear end drum to drum.

I don't think you can have a limited slip front diff... but, I may be wrong.

From what I'm seeing that code does indicate limited slip front. You can send it my way if you don't think you need it.

Yes a second letter means L/S front diff. Not really necessary around the pavement. It's for serious off road use - a logger or a forestry worker would want it. Or a farmer.
If he's selling stuff cheap though, it would be real good for a spare - the gears match your rear diff. Offer him 100. If he'll take it, grab it.
Lots of guys on here would give you double that for a 3;55 posi 3rd member if you decide you don't want it.

$100 seems like a steal so I will go for it. There was a guy here on CL selling a loaded dana 44 pumpkin for $250 and it sold pretty quickly. We shall see if he accepts.

If your planning on getting into any deeper snow that front limited slip will help you out more than you'd think it would.
