'87-'89 is different from '90-'96. '90-'96 the pump and sending unit comes as an assembly. If your pump is from your '89 it won't work for his truck.

I know their different, I needed the fuel system off the 90 and newer trucks but ended up ditching the whole thing and just putting a 220 lph pump on the frame with a different tank switch. Needed the bigger pump for the 30lb injectors.

I had to go to the junk yard to get the whole unit when I did it, I had the same prob finding a new one, junk yard was the only other place i could find one.

I thought the assembly came with the sending unit. Mine's an '87 so I don't have that problem. I was just making sure everyone knew the differences so people don't get the wrong parts.

Naw I looked all over the web for one and I did find one somewhere, I just googled it...but you dont know how good the pump is your putting in there. Ya know? It is possible you might be able to fix your old sender...their easy to take apart after you get the pump out, just take the plastic cover off and pop the board out and give it a good cleaning. That might be all that it is. One of the ones I got from the junk yard was a lil jacked up so I took it apart and just wiped it down good with brake clean so it had a good contact surface and it worked great.

ya i might just replace pump and take a look at the sending unit while im under there. I heard the problem with replacing just the sending unit is that the pump can sometimes fall off the assembly. how is it secured on there.

Nahh theres not really any way that it can, the old part that you reuse screws onto the pump so theres no way it can. Thats the reason you cant find the whole assembly, they made it so you dont have to buy the whole deal, which makes no sense, in situations like yours when you need the sender and all. Lemme know if you want that pump, I'd let it go for 100. Their 160 new and it might as well be new. I can send ya pics too.
