E4OD Trans - 12 to 9 pin connector ?
My trans recently blew out in my 90 f150, today got a tranny out of a 92 f150, all thats different is the passenger side connector, its 9 pins instead of 12 on the original. Looks like it will fit though, just less pins. Will this tranny still work? Do I have to re-wire some of the harness?

The new trans I got has different shifter linkege and no speedo (block off plate) and different connnector for the solinoids. The truck had a digital dash... What year did they start?

Seems like this trans is out of a '94 F150, looks rebuilt recently has blue paint inside on the pump casing, new seals etc. Is there any way to change out the tail-shaft to the '90 one? Comparing 1990 to 1994 E4od's, in 1994 most of ford's improvements were done to the e4od... Right? Shifter linkage is changed over so is the solenoid pack, 1990 to 1994 conversion. Only thing really wrong at this point is no speedometer tailshaft on the '94 tranny, how do I work with this?

Be careful with the different connectors. The early E4OD solenoid packs had diodes in built into the pack to prevent the voltage spike for the collapsing magnetic field of the solenoid from cooking the computer. In the later (I can't remeber which year, I think 94?) Ford removed the diodes from the solenoid pack in the trans and added protection in the computer. If you end up with a late solenoid pack and an early computer you will likely be buying a new computer. Going from memory which is a couple years old now, the early solenoid packs had a redish orange seal in the electrical connector on the transmission side, the later solenoid packs without diodes have a green seal which goes into the vehicle side harness. I the plugs don't easily plug in wrong, but if you really try you can.
