Drum brakes make me

yes, sounds about right!
this little ditty has stumped im sure a few of us here once.
What seems to fit over the shoe nicely is the deciever.
the lever moves the link which in turn pushes on the opposite shoe out.
I quite enjoy drum brakes (since I mainly work on pre-1960's cars)
And not much has changed.
simple designs that are easily diagnosed / restored.
Let us know how it goes!

Well i checked as soon as i got home. No dice. I had them seated properly. I took a bunch of pics. The copper one is the passenger side. I sprayed them both at the same time to try to stop the brake squeel. Clearly the drivers side is being used much more.
So the only thing else i can think of is i put the wrong shoes in the front. Or i got bad or the wrong parts. Though i got the ones on rockauto that were the most popular.

I guess my memory was a tad rusty about the bar, but I did try to get you some usable pictures.

If I remember correctly this time the short brake on the front and the long on the rear.

Thanks for the pics Sean. The only thing that seems different about my setup and yours is the parking brake lever's spring does not have a piece of metal in there to hold back the spring. That causes that spring to be a bit more compressed. But it was on there before, so I figured it was necessary. It isn't even mentioned on the diagram you posted. It is right next to the "Parking Brake Link Spring"
Most of the pics I have found online do not show this "spring hat".
Here are the shoes I purchased from RockAuto.
WAGNER Part # PAB263R {#PAB263RNA} ThermoQuiet
11-1/32 x 2-1/4" Brake; Riveted; Rear
Thoughts?

But what? Is there a specific order to get them together right? Seems to me that if all the springs are in the right holes then they should just hold them in place. And everything should be groovy. I even followed directions from my Chiltons, and Youtube.
