Default driveshaft support bearing

Who has the 2 piece driveshaft? Does anybody have problems with the support bearing? This is the third time in 2 years that the bearing has popped out of the rubber and destroyed the rubber. The bearing itself is fine but the rubber won't hold it in. Is there something else I should be looking at that may be causing this? I greased the driveshaft slip joint the last time I changed the support bearing. Should I try bonding the bearing case to the rubber, and if I do what should I use? Is there a polyurethane one or high performance one that I can get?

I've had a 2 piece driveshaft at my old car - not F150. It was a real pain. IMO the best way is to replace it with a single piece one - if you don't have a long bed, they must be the same.

Sean, how is the alignment? When securing the bearing holder to frame is it in perfect alignment, or is there a twist or even pressure on it like the shaft is bottomed out? All the two piece shafts I have ever come across there was side play or even fore and aft movement allowing easy installation of the retaining bolts.

I don't really want to switch to a one piece driveshaft, even though I have seen them on longbeds.
I'm sure the alignment is fine, it lasted for months but it should last years. I pulled the bearing bracket all the way back because that was what was required for everything to fit right. The mounting holes are 1 inch long for different positions I guess. If I move it forward in the slots it puts the yoke too close to the transmission, and where it is at is a good even split on the slip yoke.

I have the split drive shaft with the carrier bearing. I have not, as yet, had any trouble with it. As far as I know, it is still the original bearing.

Well, I changed the bearing support on Thursday. This time I siliconed the bearing case to the rubber. Today I was driving to work and the damn thing popped out again. I pushed it back in and it popped out again. This is aggravating me. I'm going to let the truck cool and then I'm going to weld some metal in front of the rubber on the bracket to give it support. Hopefully this won't have any negative effects.

Well, this is what I did to fix it. I don't see any other way to stop it from happening but this.

I welded a piece of metal on each side of the bracket, giving about 3/8 of an inch clearance from the driveshaft. Hopefully that is enough to allow it to flex and not rub.

Hope it works for you, but I wouldn't think it would be necessary to go to such extremes to get it to work properly. Have you thought about replacing the bracket with one from another truck?

The new bearing came with a new bracket and rubber mount also. I don't know what is causing this problem, but it better not be a problem now.
