Default Fuel filter removal

I located the fuel filter on my 95 flareside an noticed it has a metal slip on fitting of some sort . My question is there a procedure on how to disconnect this fitting by push ,turn, pull or ? I dont want to force something that is probably so simple. Please advise !

you're gonna need a special tool...

if you search "fuel filter" on the forum you'll find many replies, pretty much all saying the same thing.
