Just wondering what the production numbers for the 87 stepside were? There's one for sale near me for cheap and I was thinking of buying it just for the bed but I don't think there are many out there and I would kinda feel bad ruining a rare truck. Any opinions?

i would say buy it, take the bed, sell the rest, and when/if you want to sell the 93', take the bed back off, put it on an 87' and call it good

That's a good idea. I really wanna buy it, I called the guy twice left a message and emailed him all after a couple hours of him posting it and no response. Hope I can get it.

Just buy it for the parts you want. If you don't save it then it will end up in the junkyard anyways, probably. There is nothing special about the bed, but I think the fenders are '87 only.

thats a good point, its the same bed as the 80-86s just with more squareish fenders

From what I could find online for pictures they look the same to me.

The box was used since at least the '50s. '80-'86 has different fenders than the '87. If you look at the regular bed of a '80-'86 it is different from a '87-'96 bed because of the fender and wheel opening lips. The stepside bed fenders also have that different lip, but was used only in '87.

I never noticed that before, I guess I would be better off with the 87 stepside bed because the wheel wells will actually match with the 93.

I'm not getting a response from the guy with the 87 stepside but I think I can still get the 86, do you think it will look ok even though the wheel wells will be different?

I'd probably take what I could get. You can always change the fenders if you can find some. Most people won't even notice, except for people like you and I. You also could try to graft in the newer fender lips.
