Honey, you like what you like and I like what I like and sometimes they're not the same. Plus, me driving my old truck saves us $500 a month, which paid for our last vacation.

If you have 2 trucks, one newer, one ours:
Goiing 35mph in town in opposite directions, collide head on. Our truck will always win, why you ask?
Einstien summed it up best in his theory of relativity, E=MC^2. Kinetic Energy= Mass X Speed of light(squared).
Going the same speed our trucks have way more kinetic energy than the newer lighter trucks. Yes ours are bulky, not aerodynamic, missing almost all of the air bags, and corner like a fat chick on a wet floor.... BUT... They are most definitely safer in a head on collision. Have you guys ever seen accidents between 80/90's trucks and a new one? I have seen quite a few and old betsy always comes out on top. The new one has the safety features that all function as they should, multiple crumple zones, more air bags than congress, etc... The people in the old truck may have some bumps but they always walk away, and actually can drive away in some cases which you know isn't happening in the newer vehicle. The simple fact is the faster the speed of the vehicles the more the safety needle swings in our favor simply because of the quality and weight of the parts they used to use.

I'd just tell her she's right and plan a day to go shopping for a new Superduty. Nothing else will do of course.
If she's any good at math at all, by the time she figures out the monthly payments and increase in insurance that you're eagerly wanting to introduce into the monthly household budget, she might find a little affection in her heart for the old truck.

I wish it worked that way. My rib is constantly trying to get me to keep the 2fiddy I have, even though I don't need it for work any more. The "but it would cut our expenses by $600 a month" seems to have no bearing on her sensibilities. Unfortunately for her, I'm not a "Yes, dear" guy. I did roll over and buy her a '14 Explorer that she wanted.

Lmao right, I'll win though cause she is looking at a new Explorer right now, even though she already drives a 2012 chevy cruze. We can only afford one car payment at a time though. So if I tell her shes gonna have to wait another 5 years to get her new explorer so I can get a new truck shes gonna change her mind...

I'm sorry but I feel safer in these tanks than the newer aluminum body trucks, for all of their safety features and good mileage nothing can change physics.

don't take that the wrong way, but there's plenty of scientific evidence (not newspaper articles photos) of how and why a newer vehicle is much safer than an old "solid steel box".
that doesn't mean you'll drive away in the same truck after a crash, it just means you'll live to drive / walk away, period.
