Cruise control not working 88 5M
On my 88 302 5 sp manual the cruise will not come on at all
The vacuum hoses and diaphram seem to be fine and the fuse is good
Anybody know what it could be

Are the buttons for it on the steering wheel? If so, does the horn work correctly? It may be the part that transfers power down the column while still allowing the steering wheel to turn. Several people have had problems with this part, but I don't remember what the part is called.

Is that part of the clock spring? That's the thing that turns off the flashers when you turn the wheel. I think it's all run through the same part (flasher turn-off, wiring to wheel-mounted buttons, etc.)
That thing is a pain in the butt to replace.

The buttons are on the steering wheel and the horn does work
I have already had the steering wheel off to replace the metal piece that is part of the ignition which caused it to not start with the key
It really isnt that hard if you have a steering wheel puller
There are two (clock springs?) inside there They are little pins with a spring on them If one is for the horn and the other for the cruise then that could be it
I didnt see any obvious problem when I had it apart
Thanks

I was thinking clock spring but couldn't remember if that was what it really was called. It may be the problem, only one of the wires doesn't need to be making contact for it to not work. You could find the cruise control harness plug at the bottom of the column and test the cruise there to see if the signals are passing through the clock spring. I don't have a wiring diagram for the cruise control though.
