Default Coolant temp vs temp sensor on intake manifold....

Anyone know what is the difference between the coolant temp sender and the temp switch which is located on the lower intake manifold? I know the sender is what the gauge uses so what does the other do??? The other one I refer to is near the air charge temp sender. Thanks.

You have a coolant temp switch that is what works the gauge(1 wire). The collant sensor is what sends a signal to the computer(2 wire).
