Default Changed coolant temp sensor..still doesn't work

What is the next step?

There was originally (when I bought it) an aftermarket temp guage. I took it out and replaced it with a new sensor. Plugged it in and the guage still doesn't work.

What should I check next?

Did you change the gauge one or the computer one?

That's the sensor for the computer. There should be one to the right of the distributor in the intake itself that screws in vertically instead of horizontally like the one you replaced. It'll have one wire attached. That's the one for the guage in the cluster.

Chances are it'll look like this.

Thanks for the info!

I found the other sensor that you're referring to. I plan to pick it up today. Then I hope to have a working temp gauge. Now since I put the actual sensor in, that's in the pic, the check engine light is off. The thing runs better than it ever has.

Well changed the other sensor and still no temp gauge.

The heater works well so I don't think it's the thermostat.

We think it's wiring or the gauge itself. Does anyone have a wiring diagram?

Unhook the wire, gauge should go all the way one way. Ground the wire gauge should go all the way the other direction.

Well I did as you said and the gauge went all the way to hot. So I figured that the connection was loose to the sensor. Squeezed it tighter and wala! Temp gauge is working! Thanks!
